Electrified (a poem)
A lonely ocotillo stands proud among the dunes, fuchsia flowers pointed skywards at the black clouds crowding out a bruised sunset. The clouds unleash a bolt of lightning upon a hill of sand, carrying within its jagged spear the words: Electrified / Black clouds above / The arid desert / Shoot tendrils down / To massage the sand / Into trees of glass./ They bring down / With them / A precious / Gift which / Falls to earth / Turns the dust / To mud, fills / The gullies / And floods / The valleys, / Brings greenth / To the parched / Creosote and / Ocotillo. / And you / Bring / Me to / Life / .
Electrified
Black clouds above
The arid desert
Shoot tendrils down
To massage the sand
Into trees of glass.
They bring down
With them
A precious
Gift which
Falls to Earth
Turns the dust
To mud, fills
The gullies
And floods
The valleys, and
Brings greenth
To the parched
Creosote and
Ocotillo.
And you
Bring
Me to
Life
